Is your Shopify store in ChatGPT?
Two different things hide in that question. One is a setting in your Shopify admin. The other is what the answer actually says when a shopper asks, and no setting shows you that.
Your catalogue is available to AI
Shopify's agentic storefronts can list your products in ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Meta. Shopify says they are active by default for eligible stores, under Sales channels, Agentic. Citeon cannot see that setting, so the Products page gives you the steps to check it once.
The answer picks your product
When a shopper asks for the best trail shoe for beginners, the answer names a handful of products. Citeon asks the engines your buyers' questions every day and records, for each product, whether it was named, whether its page was cited, and whether AI sent visits to it. Read how ChatGPT picks its sources.
How to install and connect, in three steps.
The app links your store to your Citeon workspace and reads your catalogue. It never creates the workspace for you: start the free trial first, or connect the workspace you already have.

Install the app in Shopify
Shopify asks you to allow five permissions. None of them reach orders, customers or payments.

Which products AI names, product by product.
Your AI visibility score says whether AI names your shop. The Products page says which products it names, which pages it cites, which ones bring visits from AI, and which ones shoppers ask about while AI leaves them out. Four signals, never blended into one score, and a dash, never a zero, when something was not measured. The full method: which products AI names, and the four signals.

AI shopping readiness for your product pages.
AI shopping surfaces read the product markup on your pages. On Optimize, the monthly site audit checks a sample of your product pages against Google's merchant listing fields and OpenAI's product feed, and flags titles over 150 characters and descriptions over 5,000. A page without product markup says so, instead of listing every field as missing. More on the shopping readiness check.

Product descriptions and fixes, applied to your store.
A description is written only from the product's own facts: its name, brand, type, tags, options, collections and current text, never its price or stock. The writer lists every statement those facts do not back, for you to check. Approve it, and Apply writes it to your store once the store is connected. How a proposal is written: AI product descriptions.
Fast and light racing flat for race day.
The Acme Tempo is a racing flat for race day and fast road sessions. It weighs 198 grams in size 42 and has a 6 mm drop.
The upper is an engineered mesh, and the outsole is a full-length rubber layer for grip on wet roads.
- Weight: 198 g (size 42)
- Drop: 6 mm
- Sizes: 39 to 47
- Product descriptions, from the Products page: 200 proposals a month on Optimize.
- SEO titles and meta descriptions of products, collections, pages, blog posts and the blog, from fix cards.
- Image alt text, from fix cards, up to 8 images on each of up to 10 pages per card.
Fix texts are written from the page's own words, within set lengths: SEO titles of 15 to 60 characters, meta descriptions of 120 to 155, alt text of 5 to 125. You can edit each one before Apply.
- Your theme: no theme files, no JSON-LD, no llms.txt or robots.txt. The app has no theme access.
- Your homepage title and meta, and /collections/all: Shopify's API does not allow it, so the fix card says where to change them by hand.
- Product and collection titles, page text: no feature proposes them today.
What the app can and cannot see.
Products, content and files only. No orders, no customers, no payments.
read_productswrite_productsread_contentwrite_contentwrite_filesIt reads your products and collections: titles, descriptions, type, vendor, tags, status, images, prices and stock, and your shop's domain. It never asks for orders, customers, themes, discounts, inventory changes or analytics.
Shopify's customer data requests are checked for Shopify's signature, logged, and answered: Citeon holds no customer data.
The store's access is kept encrypted, readable only by Citeon's servers, and expires every hour; it is renewed with a rotating refresh token.
Remove the app in your Shopify admin and Citeon drops the tokens and marks the store uninstalled. The link to your workspace stays, so a reinstall reconnects. If Shopify asks Citeon to erase the shop, the install record and the store connection are deleted; your catalogue, proposals and change log in your Citeon workspace are not.
Shopify lists your products in AI. Citeon shows what the answers say.
Agentic storefronts are Shopify's own channel into AI assistants. Shopify Catalog sends each listed product's title, description, options, images, price and availability, which is why the description and the product data matter twice: once for the listing, once for the answer (Shopify Help Center).
Citeon cannot see or change this setting; it is a guide on the Products page, not a reading. Citeon measures the answers of ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode; it does not track Copilot's answers.
Two plans. The store connection is on Optimize.

About Citeon for Shopify.
Does Shopify work with ChatGPT?
Yes, in two ways that are easy to mix up. Shopify's agentic storefronts can list your products in ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Meta, and Shopify says they are active by default for eligible stores. Whether ChatGPT names your product when a shopper asks is a separate question, answered in the answer itself. That second part is what Citeon measures, question by question and product by product.
How do I list my Shopify products on ChatGPT?
In your Shopify admin, under Sales channels, Agentic, as Shopify's Help Center describes. Products you leave unlisted stay out, and Shopify Catalog sends each listed product's title, description, options, images, price and availability. Being listed does not mean an answer names the product; Citeon's Products page shows which ones it does.
How do I get my products recommended by ChatGPT?
No tool can promise it. What you control is what the engines can read: product markup with the fields Google and OpenAI require, descriptions that say what the product is, what it is made of and who it is for, and the third party sources the engines cite. Citeon checks the first two on your product pages and shows the sources behind every answer, then measures whether the answers change. Read how ChatGPT picks its sources.
Does the app change my store without asking?
No. Nothing is written until a person approves it, and only owners and admins can write. Right before writing, Citeon reads the field from your store and refuses if it changed since the proposal. After writing, it reads the field back. Every change is logged with its before and after text, and undo writes the old text back while the store still holds Citeon's text.
Which AI engines does it check?
Visibility checks three engines, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity unless you choose otherwise among ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity. Optimize checks all 6: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. Microsoft Copilot answers are not tracked.
Does it need my store password removed?
No. Once your store is connected, products are read through Shopify's Admin API, so a password protected store works. Without the app, Citeon reads a public store's product listing once a week, and that read does not work behind a password.
Is the app on the Shopify App Store?
Not yet. It was submitted on 21 October 2026 and is in Shopify's review. Until Shopify approves it, it installs on development stores only, and Citeon connects a live store by hand. This page will say when it is listed.
What happens when I uninstall it?
Shopify tells Citeon, which drops the store's access tokens and marks the connection uninstalled. The link to your workspace is kept, so installing again reconnects. If Shopify later asks Citeon to erase the shop, the install record and the store connection are deleted; your catalogue, proposals and change log in your Citeon workspace are not.
Does it add llms.txt or schema to my theme?
No. The app has no access to your theme, so it does not write llms.txt, robots.txt or JSON-LD to a Shopify store. Citeon's site checks look for them, and the fix card says where each one goes.
Is Citeon a Shopify app or an agency?
Software you run: it measures, proposes and, once you approve, writes to your store. If you would rather have the work done for you, that is a separate service, generative engine optimization services. See GEO services.
