Your share of the names AI gives, against the competitors it actually names.
When a buyer asks an AI engine who to choose, the answer names a few businesses. Citeon AI counts every name in every answer to your buyers' questions, every day, and shows your share of them, per engine, against the competitors the engines name, found in the answers rather than typed in advance. On every plan.
A fraction of the names,
not a rank.
Share of voice is relative. Your visibility score says how often you are named; share of voice says how much of the market's naming is yours. The two can move apart: more names for you and more for everyone leaves the share flat.
| Measure | What it counts | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Share of voice | Your names as a share of all brand names in the answers to your questions, per engine, 28-day window | Engines gave 120 names across your questions; 30 were you: 25% |
| Rank | Your position among the businesses by share of voice | Third of nine businesses the engines named |
| Head to head | Per question: who was named, who was recommended, you or them | "Best accountant Rotterdam": you named on ChatGPT and Perplexity, a rival recommended on Gemini |
| Competitors named | The businesses the engines put next to you, how often, and in which engine | Found from the answers; you can dismiss a wrong match |
The engines name
different competitors.
Asked the same question on the same day, two engines name the same business first 26 to 35.7% of the time. A share of voice from one engine is one market; Citeon AI shows five.
| Engine pair | Same brand named first | Any of the top three shared | Questions compared |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude and Gemini | 36% | 64% | 241 |
| Claude and Perplexity | 32% | 67% | 253 |
| ChatGPT and Claude | 32% | 61% | 260 |
| ChatGPT and Perplexity | 32% | 57% | 274 |
| Gemini and Perplexity | 32% | 60% | 247 |
| ChatGPT and Gemini | 26% | 55% | 258 |
Same question, same business, same day; pairs where both engines named at least one brand. 24 August 2026 to 7 October 2026.
Names come from the pages
the engines read.
In our data the engines cite a business's own site in 0.6% of answers; the names come from reddit.com, en.wikipedia.org, youtube.com, linkedin.com and the directories of each trade. Citeon AI lists, per losing question, the sources the engines used and the competitors they named, and turns the gap into a fix card: the listing to claim, the review platform to be on, the comparison page to write, the facts to make consistent.
| Step | What Citeon AI does |
|---|---|
| Measure | Every question to every engine, every day; every brand name counted; share of voice per engine over 28 days. |
| Find | The competitors the engines name, the questions where they win, and the sources behind each answer. |
| Fix | A fix card per losing question with the file or copy ready; one click on WordPress, Astro and Next.js on Optimize. |
| Verify | The next day's answers show whether the share moved. |
Share of voice is one of the five measures in the AI visibility tool. The method and baselines are on the data page.
About share of voice.
What is share of voice?
In marketing, share of voice is your share of the attention in a market: of the ads, the mentions, the search results. In AI answers it is your share of the brand names the engines give when buyers ask who to choose. If the engines name ten brands across the answers to your questions and three of those names are yours, your share of voice is 30%.
What is AI share of voice?
Share of voice measured inside AI answers rather than in ads or search listings: the share of all brand names in the engines' answers to your buyers' questions that are your business, computed over a rolling window and per engine. Citeon AI shows it against the competitors the engines actually name, discovered from the answers rather than guessed.
How is share of voice different from the AI visibility score?
The visibility score is about you alone: how often you are named, where, whether you are recommended. Share of voice is relative: your names as a fraction of everyone's names. A rising score with a flat share of voice means the market is being named more too.
Who are the competitors in the share of voice?
The ones the engines name, found in the answers. In our data an answer that names brands names 7 of them on average, and the first name is the same across two engines only 26 to 35.7% of the time, so the competitor list is measured per engine and reviewed by you, not typed in advance.
How often is share of voice measured?
Every day, over a 28-day rolling window, so one answer cannot swing it. Your questions rotate in halves, so each is asked about every second day on each engine.
What moves share of voice?
Being named more often, in more answers, ahead of others. In our data the engines cite a business's own site in 0.6% of answers and build the rest from third-party pages, so share of voice moves with the mentions on the pages the engines read: reviews, directories, forums, comparison articles. Each losing question becomes a fix card in Citeon AI.
